o.T. (31)
Franziska Holstein
14. August – 08. November 2025
“o.T. (31)” is a 31-part series of canvases by artist Franziska Holstein. The works will be shown together on a single wall, offering both an impressive insight into Holstein’s artistic process and a unique spatial and visual experience.
(20)“, 2023).
Each of Holstein’s series begins with a process of freely associating form and color on a single surface. As she works, process of open experimentation gradually evolves into an increasingly systematic approach – a kind of formula – which she then rigorously applies across the entire series.
In “o.T. (31)”, each composition consists of 16 areas of equal size, divided only horizontally or vertically. The color palette is limited to just four tones – light blue, muted white, orange, and black – always appearing in exactly this sequence. Added to this are strict rules of symmetry and consistent color mirroring within each form.
As with her previous bodies of work, “o.T. (31)” moves along the charged boundary between playful experimentation and formal discipline. Holstein’s practice is always shaped by a view of her oeuvre as a whole. It unfolds as an ongoing, interrelated process in which forms and colors shift from print to paper, to canvas, to collage, to mural – and ultimately back again.
