Copley<\/strong> (*1919\u2013\u20201996) war ein amerikanischer Maler, Schriftsteller und Galerist, der innerhalb der Nachkriegskunst eine spezielle und h\u00f6chst individuelle Position einnimmt.<\/p><p>Inhaltlich dem europ\u00e4ischen Surrealismus verbunden, nicht zuletzt aufgrund seiner engen Freundschaft mit Duchamp, Magritte, Ernst und anderen, weist sein Werk stilistisch Elemente der amerikanischen Pop Art auf und wird oft als Vorreiter dieser gesehen. Thematisch kreisen seine narrativen Bilder um das sexuelle Begehren, das Verh\u00e4ltnis zwischen m\u00e4nnlicher und weiblicher Sexualit\u00e4t und deren moralischen Implikationen in der Nachkriegsgesellschaft der USA.<\/p><p>Copleys Werk wurde in den letzten Jahren verst\u00e4rkt gew\u00fcrdigt, zuletzt im Rahmen einer umfassenden Retrospektive in der Menil Collection, Houston und der Fondazione Prada in Mailand.
