So rot, so rot
Elvira Bach
12. September – 15. November 2025
We are pleased to announce the opening of Elvira Bach's solo exhibition, 'So rot, so rot' (So red, so red), as part of Berlin Art Week 2025.
Elvira Bach gained worldwide recognition through her participation in Documenta 7 in 1982. With unmistakable expressiveness, striking colours and subtle humour, she has placed the diverse identities of women at the centre of her art, particularly in her portraits of women.
The artist has lived and worked in Berlin since 1972. She studied under Hann Trier at the Berlin University of the Arts, while working as a prop master at the Schaubühne theatre. She has consistently pursued her work as a maverick to this day.
Galerie Friese is showing Elvira Bach's work for the first time, with a focus on her early pieces from the 1970s and 1980s. These are complemented by a series of new ceramics created specifically for this exhibition in the summer of 2025. These pieces testify to Elvira Bach's inexhaustible creativity and her ability to lend her own signature to the things around her and find expression for the joy of existence.
